Public Display Point

Location of the elements of the project

The wind turbine and solar panels will be mounted on the landing stage at the end of the pier. They will be visible from the end of the pier behind the pagoda looking down on the landing stage (where the Waverley paddle steamer docks). You will have to walk the pier to find them.

The tidal turbine will be mounted beneath the pagoda and it will be submerged for several hours per day. It will be very hard, or even impossible to see it from the pier, or from the shore.

The public display element will be located near the pagoda (exact location to be decided) and the design has not yet been finalised. We envisage some form of display of current energy generation from each of the three renewable energy generation units (solar, tidal and wind) as well as information about how the energy is captured and historic data about generation at different times / weather conditions.

What will be on display and where?

The plan is to site an interactive display terminal on the pier which will be available to the public to interact with to find out about the current power generation via each of the three renewable energy generation units (solar, tidal and wind) as well as historic data and information about the advantages and disadvantages of each.

For example:

•        Solar energy is weather dependent and does not generate at night but is cheap to install;

•        Wind energy is weather dependent but is cheap to install;

•        Tidal energy is 100% predictable but expensive to install etc.

It is also anticipated that the websites for Clevedon Pier and Heritage Trust, and Our Tide will each provide links such that there will be the possibility of world wide access.

Below is a mock-up of what the percentage of maximum power each unit might produce against time of day.
