Work remaining

Work is still in the early stages and we would be delighted to hear from anyone who can help us scope out the project. As there is no blueprint to copy we are doing this from scratch. Below are some of the anticipated items of remaining work, but this list is likely not to be exhaustive:

Overall system design:
  • Device selection for each of the three generation units (solar, tidal and wind)
  • Battery selection
  • Demonstrator loads (LEDs, mobile phone charger, display panel)
  • Physical/electrical scheme
  • Information scheme
Solar panel & wind turbine installation:
  • Select & procure off-the-shelf devices
  • Physical/electrical installation
Tidal stream turbine design & mounting (no off-the shelf solution has been found):
  • Determine maximum size (location dependent)
CCTV:
  • public information & safety
Public information displays (pier mounted & website):
  • Data interfaces
  • Physical/electrical scheme

Project management and permissions

As well as the research into devices and systems to install to allow the project to go ahead there are lots of areas we have to research. Some of these are underway, including with the help of Clevedon Pier and Heritage Trust. There are also many different consents and licences (or exemptions) we will need including:

  • Marine license exemption (approved)
  • Planning permission (started)
  • Listed building consent
  • Public acceptability
